Fixing Sunken Interlock: What Causes It and How We Repair It

Sinking interlock is a common issue in the GTA, especially after our freeze-thaw winters. But not all sunken pavers are created equal. Understanding the cause helps us determine the best fix.

Common Causes of Sinking:

  • Poor Base Preparation: If the original contractor skipped steps, it’s only a matter of time before settling occurs.

  • Water Damage: Improper drainage or runoff can wash away your base layer.

  • Heavy Loads: Driveways and patios bear weight—without the right foundation, they’ll sink.

How We Fix It:

  • Carefully lift and clean each paver

  • Re-compact and regrade the base using the correct material

  • Relay the stones level

  • Finish with a polymeric sand application to stabilize the surface

Your interlock can be restored to look like new without a full replacement.
